The Bureau of Justice Statistics defines sexual assault as a wide range of victimizations that are separate from rape or attempted rape. Sexual assault offenses often include a wide range of various attacks or attempts that involve some form of uninvited and unwanted sexual contact between offender and victim. It is important to understand that you may be charged with this sex offense even if force was not involved. This offense includes the verbal threat to act sexually toward an individual as well as the fondling or grabbing of an individual's body parts without their consent.
