Looking at the admissible evidence presented at trial I don’t think the government met their burden. And I say this as an objective observer. Don’t pay attention to what media and political figures want you to think and make up your own mind. Six women in Florida did and this is the decision they made.
Some like to talk about “government oppression” right now, that guns are the only way to defend it. The most likely oppression anyone will ever face is that from a criminal charge for something you feel you’re innocent. A jury trial where the government must prove every element of the crimes charged beyond a reasonable doubt is the only way to defend it. At The Law Office of Brian Jones, we see innocent people every week and that is how we defend them.
I don’t say any of this to start arguments. I just thought it needed to be said, from someone who not only cares a great deal about the justice system but takes part in it every single day. We really do have the best system in the world. Don’t look at it in the context of Casey Anthony, OJ Simpson, or George Zimmerman. Look at it in the context of Kennedy Brewer, Michael Blair, and Damon Thibodeaux, who collectively spent 43 years in prison for murders they didn’t commit and have been recently exonerated.
